www.studio-ford.com A WALK THROUGH THE PROCESS http://www.studio-ford.com http://www.studio-ford.com http://www.studio-ford.com =E2=80=8BOur textile collection is created in collaboration with traditiona= l block printers and handloom weavers across India. Each pattern begins as = an original drawing or painting by Josie Ford in our Los Angeles studio, th= en is translated by skilled artisans using techniques that have been practi= ced for generations. Wooden blocks are hand-carved with specialized chisels= and wood hammers. The outline of a design is the first block that is carve= d and is typically carved by the most skilled block carver. This process ca= n take up to two days depending on the intricacy of the design.=C2=A0 [Handwritten notes with numbers and text in Hindi and English.](http://www.= studio-ford.com) http://www.studio-ford.com http://www.studio-ford.com Our colors are then mixed by the color master. Relying on intuition, expert= ise, and generations of knowledge, they create each color recipe by sight, = knowing exactly which pigments and proportions are needed to achieve the de= sired shade. Once the shade is complete, the mixture is poured into a color= tray which is lined with fabric to ensure even absorbtion on the wood bloc= k. The color master writes each of their recipes in a book, carefully docum= enting the precise combinations of pigments used for each shade. This handw= ritten record serves as a reference for future reprints, ensuring consisten= cy across batches. http://www.studio-ford.com http://www.studio-ford.com http://www.studio-ford.com Block printing masters learn their craft over many generations, and it take= s intricate craftsmanship to bring each pattern to life. The printing proce= ss begins with pinning the fabric to long printing tables. The master print= er dips a hand-carved wood block into a tray of color and carefully checks = that the pigment has been applied evenly across the surface. The block is t= hen pressed onto the fabric to begin the printing process.=C2=A0With each i= mpression, the printer relies on a highly trained eye to align the block wi= th remarkable precision. Every placement must register perfectly with the p= revious print, often across many yards of fabric and multiple layers of col= or. Even the slightest shift can alter the pattern, requiring intense focus= , steady hands, and years of experience. This meticulous process is repeate= d block by block, color by color, gradually revealing the finished design. http://www.studio-ford.com http://www.studio-ford.com http://www.studio-ford.com These ancient forms of textile production preserve a depth, texture, and hu= man touch that cannot be replicated by machines. Slight variations in color= and pattern are part of what make each piece unique. https://studio-ford.com/collections/quilts-1/products/leaflet-quilt Our [Leaflet Quilt](https://studio-ford.com/collections/quilts-1/products/l= eaflet-quilt)=C2=A0and [Leaflet Lumbar Pillows](https://studio-ford.com/col= lections/pillows/products/leaflet-lumbar-pillow). https://studio-ford.com/collections/quilts-1/products/toledo-quilt Our [Toledo Quilt](https://studio-ford.com/collections/quilts-1/products/to= ledo-quilt). https://studio-ford.com/collections/tablecloths/products/attendant-tableclo= th Our [Attendant Tablecloth](https://studio-ford.com/collections/tablecloths/= products/attendant-tablecloth) and [Attendant Napkins](https://studio-ford.= com/collections/napkins/products/attendant-napkin).
